I wake up early and head out to Leicester Square with Jenna to meet up with her friends, Allie and Brittany. They are studying in Paris and came over for a short visit. We head off to take them on a tour of the big sites of London. We hit up Big Ben, Westminster Abby, Tower of London and Tower Bridge, the Globe Theater and the Tate Modern. It’s a nice little tour and we get from place to place so smooth, I’m starting to feel like I know my way around London. For lunch, we head out to Goodge Street and find the pub the movie Penelope was filmed at. It is absolutely charming, the ceiling has wonderful detail and is painted a glossy black, every chandelier, table, and chair is different and unique, but everything coordinates so well. It has such a warm, cozy, homey atmosphere.
After lunch, I come home to meet my friend Dan. He wants to take me out to the London Eye. We take the Tube there and are disappointed when we find that they are having technical difficulties and have to shut it down. So we decide to take a boat tour down the river Thames instead. It is extremely fun, I get to see all the sights again and I learn a lot more about them. When we get off the boat, Dan asks me if I’ve ever been in a black English cab before. He is surprised to find that I haven’t and quickly finds us a cab to take me on a little ride. It is so much fun. He then takes me to a nice Italian dinner where we notice another difference in our cultures, the way we hold our forks. It makes for a humorous dinner.
We head back to my flat and pick up Jenna. Dan walks us to the metro station where we say goodbye, and then Jenna and I are off to see our last Broadway, Wicked, where we meet up with Allie and Brittany. We had gotten the cheap, obstructed view tickets once again, but they are great seats. All we have to do is lean forward a little to see over the partition. The show is so amazing. It starts out ok, but by the end I love it. The music is fun, the set is great, and the story is fantastic. It is a perfect day in London, one I’ll never forget.
