We wake up early to catch a bus to the train station to continue our journey to Florence. Frantically, we all board the train, fearful it will take off without us. Our luck with trains is better today, we all make it aboard. An hour later we arrive in Florence. We roll our suitcases down difficult cobblestone streets, already weighed down by our purses and backpacks. We arrive at our hotel and store our suitcases in one room while the others get made ready for us. Darrin lets us explore for a few hours before we start our tour with Tonya.
We meet up with our tour guide, and walk around the small center of Florence city. I am surprised to see all varieties of Architecture and design. Renaissance next to Medieval, modern and post World War II. It is a beautiful city with lots of narrow back streets and shops set up by the road. We see lots of churches, the Basilica Di S. Spirito being my favorite. It has one of the first sculptures ever done by Michelangelo, of Jesus on the cross. It is the most beautiful one I have ever seen. It has so much emotion and pain in it. I love the blue colors used in the church, and the simplicity it has comparatively to the overdone gaudy churches that are usually seen throughout Europe.
When the tour is over, we go and get a slice of pizza recommended by our tour guide. It is so delicious. Then we try the famous gelato at Groms that was also recommended by our tour guide. It is the most refreshing and smooth gelato, the best I have ever had.
