Venice: July 9

Thursday July 9, 2009

Today is transfer day again. We catch an afternoon train to Venice. At the station, we get a scare when the Poliza start checking a select few in our group passports. They say it is routine. It all eventually turns out fine. We make the train and nobody gets sent back to the US. On the 2 ½ hour train ride, I listen to the book, Bridget Jones Diary: The Edge of Reason. It is so hilarious and it is making me excited for London.

We arrive in Venice and walk out of the station and right to a canal. It is unbelievable. Everything I expected Venice to be and more. Flower boxes in windows, little alleyways everywhere, houses with doors opening right onto the water. It’s adorable.

We board a water metro and head to our hotel. It is the most elegant hotel I have ever stayed in. There is an upholstered headboard in a chocolate brown, with a little half tester in cream above it. The walls are upholstered in a cream damask material. Glass chandelier and sconces adorn the walls and ceiling. All the furniture is painted in a light cream, giving the room a sweet but still very elegant feel. It’s simply charming. After being amazed with our hotel, we leave on a quick little walking tour of Venice. We make it to the Rialto Bridge and it is just a beautiful sight to see. It looks just like the famous painting of the Venice canals that my mother had hung in our dining room. Everywhere we walk looks like a picture. It is unreal.

  1. You need to paint the picture of the windowbox someday.
