Today we set off to take tours of fabric companies. First we started with Rubelli. It is located in an old palace, one of the first renaissance palaces built in Venice. The company collects old fabric from the 16th century till the present. They then take inspiration from those pieces and put out lines of fabric that are historical, yet still very beautiful. Looking through the fabrics gave me lots of inspiration for the patterns that I will be designing based on my adventures through Europe. We took a lunch break and a group of us went to a little market where I bought some cheese and crackers, chips, and some yummy chocolate.
At 1:30 we met to leave on our second tour to Fortuny. We make out way there by a boat metro thing, trying not to get sea sick along the way. At Fortuny, we again see numerous beautiful fabrics, all naturally dyed and stamped with metallic gold and silver patterns. All of them designed by Mariano Fortuny, even designs that were released after his death were products of his numerous sketches found throughout his paperwork and bills. I find it amazing that someone could design a pattern so timeless, that even a hundred years later, they are still popular, if not more popular. The guide takes us outside to a little garden they have in back for clients. It is a serene little piece of grass surrounding a beautiful pool. It is really nice to just sit there and relax for a while.

The rest of the evening is free, so I go with Becky and Scott to get a strawberry chocolate crepe. It is absolutely delicious. I can’t wait for the ones in Paris!
