Venice: July 12

Sunday July 12, 2009

Our last day in Venice, I wake up early and get ready for church. A group of us had found out where the nearest church was, so we all leave together to find it. Two hours, one water taxi, and two buses later, we make it to sacrament meeting where we receive headsets and a generous member translates the entire meeting for us. It is so much fun and everybody is so sweet, asking us questions and talking to us.

When we return to Venice, Josie and I go off to sketch the beautiful bridges found throughout the city. After getting several sketches done, we decide to just relax all day. So we sit inside a nice, cool church and listen to our iPods while we relax and give ourselves time to just think. It makes for a perfect Sunday.

At 7, we all meet up to catch the night train to Paris. Our peaceful Sunday is ruined when we see our tiny, little compartment. We struggle to fit 6 girls plus luggage into a room with 2 bunk beds on top and seats on both sides that fold out to make 4 more beds. The tension rises as we are all stumbling on top of each other, hefting our heavy luggage up 8 feet to store on the wire racks above the bunk beds, trying to get situated before the train takes off. When we get all the bags stored, I decide to take a sleeping pill and get into a bed with about 2 feet of space above me. We arrive in Paris the next morning around 8:00 after a night of tossing and turning and very little sleep.
