We wake up, planning to go to the singles ward in London when someone mentions that they are going to see a matinee of the Lion King. Josie and I debate back and forth, finally deciding that we’re only in London once, so we might as well go see some Broadway. We race to the theater, with no tickets, and only a few minutes to spare before the show starts. Walking up to the theater, we see the “full house” sign. With little hope we ask if there are any tickets left. Standing seats only is the reply we get. Why not? It’s the cheapest ticket in the house, and we can see the entire stage. Lucky us. So we find our spots, lean against the partition and watch as the show begins. I am totally taken aback within the first 5 seconds. It starts out with Rafiki, the baboon played by a woman dressed up and with a painted face. She is singing “Circle of Life.” As she continues on with the song, different animals start to appear on stage. There are giraffes, gazelle, zebras, elephants. The costumes are amazing, the way they transform people into animals. It is the most creative, mind blowing performance ever.
